Market Summary -- 10th Jun 11

FTSE STI closed 3,078.35, down 19.22 points or -0.62% with a total volume of 1.05b and a total value of S$1.14b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 119 vs 304.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 4 closed positive and 26 closed negative.  The 4 gainer component stocks were :-

1. Wilmar  +0.020
2. KepCorp  +0.020
3. SingTel  +0.010
4. SembMar  +0.010

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

1. Jardine C&C  -0.560
2. JMH 400US$  -0.200
3. SIA  -0.160
4. CityDev  -0.160
5.DBS  -0.140

US markets rebounded from 6 losing days with at least 0.5% gain due to some bright note on economic data.  US trade deficit gap narrowed more than expected indicating exporting activities still strong in US.  Asian bourses were positive on open but soon ended up mixed as investors remained cautious over the weekend.  Nikkei closed +0.50%, SSE +0.07% and HSI -0.84%.  STI opened in positive region capped at 3,120 but soon slipped and closed in the red with a 0.62% drop.  Only 4 of the index stocks managed to register a positive closing.  Investors will be looking at tonight US retail sales data for May as well as PPI to judge the health of the US economy.  Furthermore, the bailout for Greece will also be on the radar
