Market Summary -- 15th Mar 10

FTSE STI closed 2,874.33, down 7.03 points or -0.24% with a total volume of 1.03b and a total value of S$975M. Total number of advance vs decline was 192 vs 263. Of the 30 component index stocks, 13 closed positive, 15 closed negative and 2 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

2. JSH 500US$ +0.320
3. Jardine C&C +0.220
4. CityDev +0.200
5. KepCorp +0.070

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

US markets ended mixed last Friday despite a surprise retail sales economic data. Asia bourses were also mixed as most of them closed in the red due to profit taking playing cautious of China will be implementing more tightening measures. Nikkei closed +0.007%, SSE -1.21% and HSI -0.62%. STI opened in the positive but with investors taking profit closed -0.24% with banking stocks leading the drop. The Jardine groups cushioning the drop of the STI index. Other sectors were mixed. Investors will be looking at this week US Fed meeting on interest rate, seeking cue of when Fed will raise interest rate.
