Market Summary -- 12th Apr 11

FTSE STI closed 3,138.00, down 22.44 points or -0.71% with a total volume of 1.24b and a total value of S$1.47b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 132 vs 349.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 8 closed positive, 18 closed negative and 4 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets fell yesterday night after IMF lower US and Japan growth for this year despite fell in oil price due to talk of cease fire in Libya.  After market closed, Alcoa reported a better than expected profit but miss sales target.  Asian bourses were mostly down for the day as Japan nuclear crisis was being raised by Japanese Government to a possible level 7 and investors also concern about China forecoming inflation data and corporate earnings.  Nikkei closed -1.69%, SSE -0.05% and HSI -1.34%.  STI continued yesterday pull back with another 0.71% drop as only 8 index stocks managed to close positive.  Investors taking off profit from past 1 week running up and awaiting for corporate earning to determine direction of market.  Immediate support will be at 3,110 - 3,120 level.
