US markets closed positive yesterday night with DJ and S&P500 closed at new high for this year as better corporate earnings took center stage.  Taking the cue, Asian bourses opened positive but closed mixed for the day.  Nikkei closed +1.39%, SSE -0.46% and HSI -0.48%.  STI hit intra-day high of 3,206 but failed to sustain at 3,200 level and in the afternoon tracking SSE and HSI fell into negative region before rebound near close with bargain hunting enabling STI to close +0.34%.  Today is the nomination day for Singapore General Election 2011 and with 82 out of 87 seats being contested ( Tanjong Pagar GRC untested and was being walkover ) with focus on Aljunied and Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC whereby the ruling party faced fierce competition from Workers' Party ( Low Thia Kiang leaving his Hougang SMC ) and SPP ( Chiam See Tong leaving his Potong Pasir SMC ) respectively.  While investors are eying on corporate earnings and US Fed meeting outcome ( in particular what the next move by Fed after QE2 expire in June ), they will be also looking at the outcome of Singapore GE2011 ( polling day 7th May ) to determine how many seats will the ruling party losing.
