FTSE STI closed 1,721.97, up 18.68 points or 1.10% with a total volume of 921M and a total value of S$886M. Total number of advance vs decline was 180 vs 207. Of the 30 component stocks, 13 closed positive, 11 closed negative and 6 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets fell at least 4% overnight when investors did not welcome what the Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's outline of the bank rescue plan. It was simply lacking in detail in which the investors are looking for. Asia bourses reacted with opened gap down. However, all managed to close off their intra-day low. HSI closed -2.46% and SSE -0.19%. STI managed to reverse the loss to close positive +1.10% with SIA, Property, Telco and Bank stocks led the recovery. With the US Sensate passed the Obama's stimulus bill now it is left with the Congress to consensus a version between the House of Representative and Sensate and pass it to Obama to sign it off by 16th Feb.
