FTSE STI closed 1,849.57, up 41.16 points or 2.28% with a total volume of 1.52b and a total value of S$1.16b. Total number of advance vs decline was 373 vs 116. Of the 30 component index stocks, 26 closed positive, 3 closed negative and 1 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets were flat yesterday night when investors could decide on concern about the swine flu and good economic news/corporate earnings. Asia bourses however reacted positively today. With Nikkei closed for the day, HSI closed +2.76% and SSE +2.78%. STI also in a bargin hunting mode with a gain of +2.28%. Tonight US will be announcing its advance 1QFY09 GDP and US Federal Reserve will conclude its 2-days meeting and investors will be looking forwards to what the US Fed has in mind in particular measures to combat the ailing economy. The swine flu issue is still in investors mind and investors could still be cautious despite of perhaps good economic news and data.
