FTSE STI closed 1,828.51, up 44.55 points or 2.50% with a total volume of 1.64b and a total value of S$1.17b. Total number of advance vs decline was 364 vs 125. Of the 30 component index stocks, 23 closed positive, 6 closed negative and 1 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets firmed up yesterday night despite the worse than expected earnings from Alcoa and coupled with Japan new stimulus package, Asia bourses traded up for the day. Nikkei closed +3.74%, HSI +2.95% and SSE +1.38%. STI closed +2.50% with Bank, Property, Commodity and Offshore/Marine counters rebound from yesterday drop. Investors are snapping up bargain blue chips despite the long weekend ahead and several US economic data like International Trade and Jobless Claims
