Of the 30 component index stocks, 25 closed positive, 3 closed negative and 2 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets were mixed yesterday night with tech stocks rallied after TI gave a positive outlook for FY09. US Government also announced 10 banks that could return the TARP funds. Asia bourses were mostly upbeat with the performance of US markets overnight. Nikkei closed +2.09%, SSE +1.02% and HSI +4.03%. STI came close to 2,400 level and closed +1.76% in a thin volume trading day. Bank, property, offshore/marine and commodity stocks were the main driver for the rally of STI. With the thin volume, investors still maintain some cautious in the market as they are looking for fresh catalysts to convince of another rally.
