FTSE STI closed 2,652.51, up 1.56 points or +0.06% with a total volume of 1.88b and a total value of S$1.43b. Total number of advance vs decline was 250 vs 214. Of the 30 component index stocks, 13 closed positive, 14 closed negative and 3 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets continued moving up yesterday night from the surprised result of Alcoa. Asia bourses took the cue and traded in the positive region despite subject to profit taking for the weekend capping the upside. SSE reopened for trading after 1 week of holiday playing catch up closed +4.76%. Nikkei closed +1.87% and HSI closed +0.03%. STI flat at +0.06% with the blue chips performing mixed. Commodity stocks mostly ended in the red due to a recovering from the weak USD. Battled down SingTel closed +0.040 to help sustain the index in the positive region. Investors will be looking at next Monday Singapore GDP number and also SPH's earning for the recovering of Singapore economy.
