FTSE STI closed 2,893.13, down 19.79 points or -0.68% with a total volume of 2.13b and a total value of S$1.65b. Total number of advance vs decline was 153 vs 369. Of the 30 component index stocks, 4 closed positive, 23 closed negative and 3 remained unchanged. The 4 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets moved up at least 1% yesterday night with market hoping a Republican will win the key Senate seat in Massachusetts. Asia bourses reacted to the movement with a positive open but soon faded away when news of China regulator curb bank lending causing markets to fall and closed negative. Nikkei closed -0.25%, SSE -2.93% and HSI -1.81%. STI gave up its earlier gain and closed below the 2,900 level with a 19.79 points drop with investors selling off the blue chips with bank stocks leading the drop. Investors will be looking at China side for more measures and at the same time looking at US corporate earnings.
