FTSE STI closed 2,977.17, up 5.20 points or +0.17% with a total volume of 2.65b and a total value of S$1.67b. Total of advance vs decline was 269 vs 273. Of the 30 component index stocks, 12 closed positive, 14 closed negative and 4 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets advanced last Friday with DJ touching 11,000 during intra-day and retreated to close slightly below it. Asia bourses were mixed in reaction to that as investors were taking profit as a pre-cautious as the index moved up. Nikkei closed +0.42%, SSE -0.51% and HSI -0.32%. STI still failed to touch the 3,000 level with both the blue chips having a mixed performance day. Penny stocks were dominating the play for the day as total volume hit pass the 2b mark again. Alcoa will kick start US earning season tonight while SPH will be doing that for Singapore tomorrow. Further more 14th April 2010 Singapore Government will be releasing its 1Q2010 GDP with most believe will be in the double-digit range. Investors will be looking at corporate earning and economic data for a firm direction to the index.
