Market Summary -- 30th Sep 10

FTSE STI closed 3,097.63, down 8.40 points or -0.27% with a total volume of 1.65b and a total value of S$2.12b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 152 vs 354.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 12 closed positive, 16 closed negative and 2 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

2. Jardine C&C  +0.200
3. SIA Engg  +0.190
4. SIA  +0.120
5. F&N  +0.120

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

1. DBS  -0.160
2. UOB  -0.140

US markets closed down average 0.4% yesterday night as concern of European debts once again surfaced and worried investors.  Asian bourses were mixed for the day with Nikkei closed -1.99%, SSE +1.72% and HSI -0.09%.  STI was unable to trade in positive region for the day but finding support at the 3,000 level.  Being the last day of 3Q, some window dressing was carried out by fund managers as they adjusting their portfolio.  Most of the transactions were on the blue chips with mixed closing.  Despite STI closed -0.27% for the day, it still managed to move up +3.68% for the month of Sep.  Investors will be looking towards next month earning seasons.
