Market Summary -- 18th Oct 10

FTSE STI closed 3,181.27, down 23.00 points or -0.72% with a total volume of 2.29b and a total value of S$2.67b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 167 vs 345.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 8 closed positive, 21 closed negative and 1 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

US markets were mixed last Friday with financial stocks dragging down the index while tech stocks provided the support.  Financial stocks were concerned about the foreclosures issue.  Asian bourses were mixed for the day but all ended up closing in the red.  Nikkei closed -0.02%, SSE -0.54% and HSI -1.21%.  STI initially was in positive region with main focus on the GLP shares but soon closed -0.72% with investors taking profit and staying cautious.  In the afternoon Singapore announced September non-oil exports up 22.7% on year vs 18.1% expected.
