Market Summary -- 7th Oct 10

FTSE STI closed 3,166.65, down 23.42 points or -0.73% with a total volume of 1.55b and a total value of S$1.81b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 150 vs 317.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 4 closed positive, 24 closed negative and 2 remained unchanged.  The 4 gainer component stocks were :-

1. JMH 400US$  +0.240
2. CapitaMall  +0.010
3. ComfortDelGro  +0.010
4. Wilmar  +0.010

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

1. Jardine C&C  -0.820
2. CityDev  -0.280
3. OCBC  -0.160
4. JSH 500US$  -0.140
5. DBS  -0.140

US markets closed mixed yesterday night after reporting that private sector laid off workers more than expected in Sept.  Investors were now on divided view that the labour market will be continued to be weak and will US Fed takes action soon to inject stimulus to improve the job condition.  Asian markets were also mixed for the day.  Nikkei closed -0.07% and HSI +0.02%.  SSE still close for holiday and will re-open tomorrow.  STI was trading in the negative region for the day with a very thin volume of only 1.55 billion.  Only 4 out of 30 component stocks managed to register a gain.  Investors taking off profit after yesterday rally and await on Friday US unemployment data as well as earnings of US companies.  SPH will kick start Singapore companies earning season on 12th Oct.
