FTSE STI closed 3,212.46, up 4.55 points or +0.14% with a total volume of 1.12b and a total value of S$934M. Total number of advance vs decline was 254 vs 182. Of the 30 component index stocks, 12 closed positive, 12 closed negative and 6 remained unchanged. The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets closed slightly positive yesterday night forming a new 2 year high. Asian bourses were mostly positive for the day except Nikkei closed -1.12% due to strong Yen. SSE +0.29% after reporting a lower than previous month PMI figure but manufacturing activities still expanding. HSI +0.13%. STI managed to maintain above 3,200 but capped at 3,220 and closed 3,212.46, +0.14% as fund managers doing window dressing for their portfolio and STI should be able to close above 3,200 for year 2010 looking at the way it is. Blue chips were mixed with 12 of the 30 index stocks closed positive and 12 in the red. Profit taking kicked in for the blue chips after past few days of running up.
