Market Summary -- 12th Jan 11

FTSE STI closed 3,244.94, up 3.45 points or +0.11% with a total volume of 1.87b and a total value of S$1.69b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 305 vs 186.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 17 closed positive, 9 closed negative and 4 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

3. JSH 500US$  +0.140
4. DBS  +0.100
5. Wilmar  +0.060
5. CityDev  +0.060

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

1. OCBC  -0.140

4. Jardine C&C  -0.040

5. Olam  -0.030

US markets closed positive yesterday night as concern of euro debt eased after Portugal Government came out to reassure that they do not required bailout.  Asian bourses took a relief from the selling pressure and managed to close positive for the day.  Nikkei closed +0.02%, SSE +0.62% and HSI +1.54%.  STI though managed to close positive but lack the strength as compared with other regional bourses.  17 of the 30 component stocks managed to close positive.  Despite the positive news from Europe, investors still cautious ahead of corporate earnings.
