Market Summary -- 13th Jan 11

FTSE STI closed 3,255.87, up 10.93 points or +0.34% with a total volume of 2.06b and a total value of S$1.68b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 243 vs 264.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 15 closed positive, 10 closed negative and 5 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets closed positive yesterday night of at least 0.5% as Portugal's bond sales gather positive demand and coupling with investors anticipating US bank stocks will raise dividend payout.  Asian bourses taking the cue closed positive for the day.  Nikkei +0.73%, SSE +0.23% and HSI +0.47%.  STI capped at 3,260 managed to close +0.34% with blue chips having a mixed performance day.  Investors are cautious ahead of corporate earnings and hence lacking the following up in stock prices.  STI supporting at 3,200 - 3,220 region is currently having resistance at 3,260 and 3,300 levels.  Inflation data, jobless claims and US corporate earning will be closely watch for tonight.  In addition the response for Spanish's bond sale will be monitored too.
