FTSE STI closed 3,193.54, up 6.97 points or +0.22% with a total volume of 1.72b and a total value of S$1.72b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 308 vs 222.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 14 closed positive, 12 closed negative and 4 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

US markets closed in the red yesterday night when concern over the US debt ceiling offset better corporate earnings.  Asian bourses were mixed for the day with Nikkei closed -0.50%, SSE +0.76% and HSI -0.13%.  STI managed to register a positive closing of +0.22% with a stronger volume than past days with index stocks having a mixed performance for the day.  While investors believe the debt ceiling will eventually be raised but the till now still no resolution still weigh on investors.
