Market Summary -- 14th Sep 11

FTSE STI closed 2,739.35, up 9.98 points or +0.37% with a total volume of 1.62b and a total value of S$1.55b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 223 vs 225.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 23 closed positive and 7 closed negative.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

4. F&N  +0.110
5. SembMar  +0.100

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

US markets closed at least +0.5% yesterday night with tech stocks leading the buying up as import & export data cooling down suggesting that US Fed could have more room to roll out stimulus program.  Asian bourses initially traded positive but closed mixed as concern of the EU debt still weigh on investors.  Nikkei closed -1.14%, SSE +0.55% and HSI +0.08%.  STI swing between positive and negative throughout the day and closed +0.37% in a moderately higher volume as compared with yesterday.  23 of the 30 index stocks registered positive closing as bargain hunting coming in.  Investors will be closely monitor the EU debt issue tonight seeking any resolution to the Greek's debt.
