Market Summary -- 7th Sep 11

FTSE STI closed 2,832.13, up 57.80 points or +2.08% with a total volume of 1.52b and a total value of S$1.38b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 333 vs 140.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 28 closed positive and 2 closed negative.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

1. Jardine C&C  +1.520
2. UOB  +0.380
3. DBS  +0.350
4. JMH 400US$  +0.290
5. CityDev  +0.250

The 2 loser component stocks were :-

1. GLP  -0.020
2. SembMar  -0.010

US markets opened down at least 2% yesterday night with EU debt issue weighing on investors but managed to regain part of the loss after a better than expected non-ISM data and managed to close just a drop of average 0.90%.  Asian bourses took the cue of the reversal and traded in positive region for the day.  Nikkei closed +2.01%, SSE +1.84% and HSI +1.71%.  STI closed +2.08% with 28 of the index stocks registered positive closing with bargain hunting coming in for the blue chips in a thin volume day.  European bourses opened with at least a +2% level helped the sentiment.  investors are waiting for this Thursday President Obama's plan for job creation.  A positive and good proposal could ease the fear of recession and help the stock markets to rebound.

STI hit pass the resistance level at 2,810 and possibility heading to the next resistance level 2,900-2,920 which it failed to break just last week.
