Market Summary -- 9th Sep 11

FTSE STI closed 2,825.10, down 31.80 points or -1.11% with a total volume of 1.34b and a total value of S$1.23b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 184 vs 267.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 4 closed positive and 26 closed negative.  The 4 gainer component stocks were :-

3. Genting SP  +0.010
4. ComfortDelGro  +0.010

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

US markets fell average 1% yesterday night with mixed of data.  Jobless claims rose while trade deficit narrowed more than expected.  US Fed Chief in a speech only talked about economy situation falling short of specifying any possibility of stimulus while investors awaiting for President Obama's proposal of job plan after market closed.  Obama proposed a US$447b of jobs stimulus plan and urged his congress to approve that soonest possible to tackle the high unemployment rate.  Asian bourses were quiet on the plan as waiting for further analysis of whether that plan will be workable or not.  Asian bourses closed mostly in the red as profit taking kicked in.  Nikkei closed -0.63% with its 2Q GDP shrank more than expected.  SSE closed -0.05% after it released its CPI at +6.2% vs previous data of +6.5% and HSI  -0.23%.  STI fell 1.11% as the negative in European bourses dragged down the sentiment.  Investors chose to take profit staying sideline to monitor how US market will be reacting to Obama's plan tonight.  There is also a G7 meeting over the weekend to focus on global economy growth and the debt issue by EU.
