Market Summary -- 11th Nov 11

FTSE STI closed 2,790.94, up 4.04 points or +0.14% with a total volume of 1.51b and a total value of S$1.20b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 249 vs 217.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 18 closed positive, 8 closed negative and 4 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

3. KepCorp  +0.120
4. F&N  +0.120
5. GLP  +0.070

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

2. Genting SP  -0.090

5. SIA Engg  -0.050

US markets rebound from previous day sell off with average of +0.5% closing as economic data of better than expected jobless claims (390k) and Italy maintained to auction off bonds coupling with ECB came in to purchase Italian bonds stabilize the Italian concern a bit.  Both new Geek and Italian PM were named also further eased off some uncertainties.  Asian bourses taking the cue also traded in positive today but cautiously.  Nikkei closed +0.16%, SSE +0.06% and HSI +0.91%.  STI edged out slight gain with 18 out of the 30 index stocks registered positive closing.  Italy will be going to vote for the austerity measures today and by Sunday will be the final vote and thereafter the new PM will take over.  Investors will be looking at both the new Italian and Greek PMs and see whether they could steer their respective countries out of the troublesome debt.
