Market Summary -- 22nd Nov 11

FTSE STI closed 2,717.20, up 19.22 points or +0.71% with a total volume of 1.5b and a total value of S$1.20b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 238 vs 207.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 21 closed positive, 7 closed negative and 2 remained unchanged.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

2. Jardine C&C  +0.510
3. JSH 500US$  +0.200
4. SembCorp  +0.140
5. SembMar  +0.110

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

1. UOB  -0.100
2. SIA Engg  -0.060

4. Capitaland  -0.040
5. ST Engg  -0.030

US markets fell at least 1.80% yesterday night after a no-show from the US super committee regarding the debt reduction plan.  After market closed, rating agency affirm US rating despite the nothing from the super committee as there is an automatic mechanism whereby in 2013, the auto debt mechanism will kick in.  In addition, President Obama said he will use his veto power if congress wants to block the auto debt reduction mechanism.  Asian bourses opened down but closed mixed.  Nikkei closed -0.40%, SSE -0.10% and HSI +0.14%.  STI reversed from earlier loss in the afternoon to close +0.71% moving back above 2,700 with bargain hunting as European bourses and US future all rebound from yesterday sell off.  Volume nevertheless was thin as investors still cautious with problem from Europe and US.
