US markets closed negative last Friday after opening in the positive in a half-day trading session for the Black Friday. Over the weekend, headlines on Europe dominated the trading for today. Talk of Germany and France were engaged in a quick new stability pact, IMF loan of money to Italy of which IMF later denied such a move and rating agency downgrading several EU countries rating. Asian bourses were in positive region for the talk in hope of possible EU leaders new plan to resolve the crisis. Nikkei closed +1.56%, SSE +0.12% and HSI +1.97%. STI in line with regional bourses closed +1.91% in a thin volume day. Despite the market moved up, investors still remain cautious as seen by the thin volume. Short-covering probably occupied most of today trading. Investors will be looking at Europe with EU Finance Ministers set to meet this week before next week EU Summit. Furthermore, US will have series of economic data namely the employment situation this Friday.
Unless good news from Europe regarding the debt crisis, market will lack catalysts in moving up and instead trading within the range.
