Market Summary -- 31st Oct 11

FTSE STI closed 2,855.77, down 49.95 points or -1.72% with a total volume of 1.48b and a total value of S$1.35b.  Total number of advance vs decline was 133 vs 344.  Of the 30 component index stocks, 6 closed positive, 1 remained unchanged and 23 closed negative.  The top 5 gainer component stocks were :-

The top 5 loser component stocks were :-

US  markets closed mixed last Friday as investors started to digest the recent move by EU leaders in tackling the EU debt crisis.  Though it was a small positive step towards the correct direction but still lacking in details which investors wanted to know of.  Asian bourses after last week rally, fell to profit taking with mostly closed in the red.  Nikkei closed -0.69%, SSE -0.21% and HSI -0.77%.  STI fell more than regional bourses with a 1.72% drop as in the afternoon session the negative in European bourses and US future dented the sentiment.  However, the daily volume was low as compared to pass 2 days, coming in at 1.48 billion only.  23 of the 30 index stocks registered negative closing.  Investors will be looking for more details from EU leaders in the coming 3rd - 4th November G20 meeting.

STI managed to close +6.75% for the month of October.
